President Obama was willing to risk a military confrontation with a close ally in order to capture or kill Bin Laden.
This would have set off an even larger breach with the Pakistanis than has taken place since officials in Islamabad learned that helicopters filled with members of a Navy Seals team had flown undetected into one of their cities, and burst into a compound where Bin Laden was hiding.
One senior Obama administration official said: “Their instructions were to avoid any confrontation if at all possible. But if they had to return fire to get out, they were authorized to do it.”
The planning also illustrates how little the administration trusted the Pakistanis as they set up their operation. They also rejected a proposal to bring the Pakistanis in on the mission.

Apparently the lovely Pippa Middleton is attracting as much attention for what she DIDN’T wear as for what she did wear. A picture has surfaced of the lovely new sister-in-law stripped down to bra and skirt having fun with an unnamed young man! This has earned her the nickname of “Pippa NoStockings…” We just think she’s a lovely girl, and bless her for having a good time.

Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom will travel from Louisville to Maryland on Tuesday morning as he and his connections prepare for the 136th Preakness Stakes. The middle jewel in racing's Triple Crown will go off at Pimlico Racecourse on Saturday, May 21.

"Two days later, it is still surreal," said Graham Motion, who is based at Fair Hill Training Center in Elkton, MD. "I had thought about it (winning the Kentucky Derby). There is not a trainer that doesn't think about it. I just didn't think it would happen at this stage of my career."

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began opening the Bonnet Carré Spillway in Louisiana Monday to ease pressure on the levee system protecting New Orleans, continuing the battle against a Mississippi River flood that could crest at Memphis later in the day.

Memphis residents are preparing for potential flooding from Mississippi River, which expected to crest along Tennessee city near record levels Tuesday. Cameron McWhirter has the latest from Memphis.

The Land Of Nod: By Gary Hoover

The dimension is populated by fantastic and dangerous creatures and also an advanced society of humans. That society, while very different from those on earth, is oddly similar, in some ways, to the society in which Jeff grew up.
As Jeff looks for clues regarding what may have happened to his father, he is accused by some of being a spy while thought by others to be a prophesized figure . . . who may be the key to victory in a developing war.
